When you are out in the sun and listening to your music you are usually wearing another accessory to protect your eyes – sunglasses. So a couple of designers have come up with the idea of modifying a paid of sunglasses with solar cells so they generate power to pump into your MP3 player.

The designers behind the sunglasses are Hyun-Joong Kim and Kwang-Seok Jeong, and they have named the their invention Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses or SIG for short. The solar cells are in a dye in the lenses of the glasses meaning walking with your eyes in the sun is going to be a good thing. At the end of one of the frame arms is a jack for your MP3 charging cable to be plugged into and receive the energy generated from the cells.

At the moment the designers haven’t got to the stage where a commercial release is being talked about and neither is a price.
